It's amazing to me the power of the cell phone.
I never new life without the cell phone very well, but I can attempt to imagine how different that was from today. The advancement time of cell phones itself is one particularly amazing thing. From my childhood to now, there have been so many changes to the mobile phone. I remember my mom having a huge bulky phone that only worked if you pulled out the antennae. Needless to say, sending a text message was not an option. Let alone an address book with enough space for all of your contacts. When I received my first cell phone, when I was 16, I was allowed to text, I remember it being a newly created. With that, I was only allowed to send and receive 200 messages per month.
But today--today we can do way more than just call and text 200 times per month. We can hold an infinite amount of contacts on our phones, watch TV, download documents, check any and every kind of social media.
My one hope is that I'm using this amazing, innovative blessing of a cell phone for the best.
Love phones it is the only way I can talk to my family now! I don't have a smart phone and it is for the very reason that I am scared I will misuse it and will become too dependent on it!
ReplyDeletePhones are the best. When I was a Sophomore in College my cell phone was stolen and I was without that particular communication devise for 16 DAYS! Ah! It was horrible. At that time I was in charge of our school's Frisbee tournament and I couldn't just pick up the phone and call people. I personally don't know how they did it back then. ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't have a cell phone. Still. Yeah, I know. I feel like a dinosaur and I'm only 33. I feel lonely. It's like everyone's at a party I forgot to go to and they're having all the fun and I'm just sitting at home eating some cake, feeling like I forgot to go somewhere.
ReplyDeleteBUT life was just fine before there were cell phones. I'm only left out now because cell phones are the only way most of my friends communicate. I have one friend I have drifted apart from because she refuses to communicate any way other than texting. If I call her phone I always get the voicemail. The only way she ever returns my call is by an email, since she can't text me and it's usually very impersonal. I suppose this is how I weed out the friends who aren't devoted enough. If they're not willing to go outside their comfort zone to be my friend then I suppose it's not meant to be. But nonetheless it irks me because I'll eventually have to break down and pay some extra money every month just so I can talk to my friends. And cell phones are so small. I just don't trust something so small.
Anyway, sorry for the negativity. I'm sure once I get a cell phone I'll be all about cell phones and telling everyone else they should get a cell phone and they'll all be like, "Uh, we all have cell phones."
